Access to Key Markets
Sri Lanka is the only country to have Free Trade Agreements with both India and Pakistan, giving duty free access to over 1.3 billion consumers from the island. The FTAs cover over
Local value addition of 35% (FOB) provides access for over 4,000 products to each country. In addition, by locating in Sri Lanka, manufacturers can gain preferential trade access to two large regional blocs under the South Asian Free Trade Area (SAFTA) and the Asia–Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA).
Sri Lanka has also successfully regained GSP+ status, thereby facilitating products of local origin to gain preferential access to the European Union. The following trade agreements are also under negotiation:
- Free Trade Agreement with China – Presently under negotiation
- Ongoing negotiations for Singapore – Sri Lanka Preferential Agreement
- Ongoing negotiations for Thailand – Sri Lanka Preferential Agreement
